The Pittsburgh Steelers have won three games in a row and tonight they host the Chicago Bears. The opening line on this game had Pittsburgh favored by five points, a line that has bulged to seven today.
What we have here is a Steelers team that opened this campaign with an upset road win over the highly regarded Buffalo Bills, then lost their next three games against opponents considered less talented than Buffalo, namely, the Las Vegas Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers.
They followed those losses at a time they were least thought of in the public eye and according to the point spread, with victories over the Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks and last week’s important division conquest of the Cleveland Browns.
So, who are these guys?
Good enough to beat Buffalo, and vulnerable enough to lose, well to almost anyone.
Like the Bears tonight.
Chicago visits Heinz Field after losing their prior three games to three quality teams, although last week’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers at Soldier Field might not have been achieved against top flight competition given how the 49ers are struggling this year. Their first two setbacks, following wins in three of their prior four games, were against the Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It was against the Buccaneers that the Bears looked most vulnerable. Tom Brady lit them up by a 38-3 score in a game that was not as close as the score. Chicago comes into play tonight following those three straight losses with their head coach, Matt Nagy, under fire and rookie quarterback Justin Fields under duress.
So, do we skip this game due to a lack of confidence in the Bears?
No.
We take this spot knowing the Steelers are not as good as their recent record and the propensity for letting lesser teams hang with them. Tonight, we find Pittsburgh overrated in both public perception and by the point spread. At the same time, we get Chicago off their trio of losses underrated in regards to their actual talent.
The point spread makes the Bears a solid play, the action on the field is just as likely to end with an upset Chicago victory.
