SEASON:

Six for Three
by Dennis Ranahan

Three games are on today’s National Football League playoff schedule.

The two outdoor venues, Tennessee hosting Baltimore and Pittsburgh entertaining Cleveland, are enjoying clear skies and weather conditions not expected to affect play. The middle of the three games played today is the New Orleans Saints hosting the Chicago Bears. That one will be played under the Superdome.

In other words, no weather concerns as the league completes their expanded Wild Card Weekend that featured six games. Next week, for the Divisional Round, the league will be back on their normal postseason schedule of two games on Saturday and a pair of games on Sunday.

Six teams are in action today with three of the eight slots for next week’s schedule still up for grabs.

The Titans and Ravens are meeting for the third time in two seasons, and Tennessee won both the playoff game last January and a regular season matchup this season. Both those games were played in Baltimore, today’s contest is in Nashville.

Four times this season teams have confronted major challenges caused by a Covid-19 outbreak in their organization. In all four of those games, the team was unable to overcome the virus and lost.

Today, the Cleveland Browns make their first postseason appearances since 2002, and it is a darn shame that they have to do it at a time that the virus has sidelined their head coach and others on the staff as well as key defensive players.

That certainly would seem to open the door for the Steelers, who lost last Sunday in Cleveland in a game that only mattered to the Browns.

As for the public, they have checked in with their three favorite plays of the week, which include two of the games played yesterday. The most bet team by the public this week was the Buffalo Bills (-6½) over Indianapolis Colts, followed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-10) over the Washington Redskins. The third most bet game of the week is tonight’s matchup between the Steelers and Browns that finds the public backing Pittsburgh (-6).

As for our Qoxhi Picks Sunday selections, they are now posted on this site.
