Cookie Cutter
by Dennis Ranahan

The Tennessee Titans have beaten the Baltimore Ravens in their last two meetings, a playoff game last season and a regular season matchup seven weeks ago. Which means this, the team that has won the last two games between these two teams is at home today and getting points on the spread.

Books must be having a giveaway special.

Actually, the books set this line to attract Tennessee bettors, and it has worked. A little more than half the wagers on this game are banking on the fortunes of the home team underdog. Why not? One might logically deduce that a team that can beat their opponent straight-up must be a really good wager getting points at home.

They’d be wrong.

There were some very intriguing reasons why the Ravens lost last year and this season to the Titans … and some compelling evidence that indicates they will reverse those results with a victory at Nissan Stadium today.

All games fall into standard criteria; home teams, visiting teams, underdogs and favorites. Those are not the factors that dictate the next result. What is about to happen is not hooked to what happened before or cookie cutter elements, but more importantly, unique factors that play the critical role in delivering one side a decided edge.

The unique factors that dictated last year’s playoff result and this season’s regular season final were all in favor of the Titans. Tennessee was on a roll last year and met the Ravens when Baltimore was in a dead motivational trap based on the ease at which they rolled through the regular season.

If only what happened in a previous matchup was the key factor in determining what is coming next, the Ravens would have gotten revenge on the Titans when they met them on their home field last November. Baltimore was again a decided favorite, they had been a double-digit pick last year in the playoffs and gave a touchdown on the line this season.

And they lost both times.

The loss last year was pinned to motivation while the Ravens setback this season was tied to a physical matchup. The Titans visited the Ravens this year in the middle of Baltimore’s three game losing streak that was tied directly to the loss of key players to the virus.

So, they lost in the playoffs because they were in a tough situational spot and this year because they were missing key players. So what about today?

In fact, the Ravens not only don’t have any reason to lose, they’ve got a groundswell of factors pointing to them winning.

The books know it, that's why the point spread so obviously invites Tennessee money.

We’ll collect with the books today when we follow their lead and back what appears to be the tougher side of this wagering proposition.

Qoxhi Picks: Baltimore Ravens (-3) over Tennessee Titans
