Mac Jones started his first professional game like a lot of rookies, with a loss. The New England Patriots quarterback out of Alabama got beat by the Miami Dolphins in Foxboro when he made just enough rookie mistakes to hand his team a 17-16 defeat even though New England seemed to outplay the visitors.
Rookie loses his first National Football League start. Nothing new here.
After six weeks of regular season action, the Patriots were 2-4 behind Jones with their only wins over the two of the weakest teams in football, the New York Jets and Houston Texans.
Nothing to see here people, move along.
Well, turns out there is a lot to see here.
Since a disappointing and hardfought overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys in mid-October, the Patriots behind their rookie quarterback have been nearly perfect. They won seven straight games in their rise to the top of the standings in the AFC East Division which included a victory over their primary division opponent, the Buffalo Bills, three weeks ago.
That win over Buffalo extended the Patriots hold on first place and sent them into their bye week with nothing but success to push off when they got back into action last week.
So, how did that go?
The Patriots were down 20-0 to the Indianapolis Colts before a couple fourth quarter touchdowns and a field goal made the game interesting … a surge by Bill Belichick’s squad that was blunted when NFL leading rusher, Jonathan Taylor, got loose for a 67-yard touchdown run that ended the game with the Colts winning by double-digits.
This week, the Patriots look to get back on the winning track, and clinch the AFC East Division title, when they host the Bills.
What’s the weather forecast in Foxboro this Sunday?
You question why that is so important?
Because it was the weather in Buffalo that was as much responsible for the Patriots win over the Bills three weeks ago as anything. In a game that Jones only attempted three passes and the windy conditions wreaked havoc with the Bills pass oriented offense, Buffalo was stymied in their attempt to move into the top spot in their division race by a 14-10 final score.
This week, the Bills are once again looking to close in on the top spot in the AFC East Division. The Patriots are hoping to clinch the division title based on what would be a two game lead over the Bills with two games left to play and the tiebreaker based on a sweep of their season series against Buffalo.
The weather on Sunday in Foxboro is forecasted to be 43 degrees at game time with 11 miles an hour winds.
Which leads to another forecast:
