Betting on football is not like going to a dance.
When you go to a dance, you leave with the lady you came with.
When betting on football, the teams that struggled early are likely money winners against the point spread later in the season, and the teams you won with on consecutive weeks, are commonly the squads about to take a dip.
We have a perfect example of a changing lanes game in Philadelphia today. The Eagles host the Seattle Seahawks, and both teams come in lodged in second place in their divisions. The Seahawks have lost two games, and are chasing a 49ers team that takes the field tonight with only one loss, but that one defeat came against the Seahawks.
That is an important factor in determining who would take a lead over the other in the event their won/loss records were identical. Seattle beat San Francisco two weeks ago in a Monday night epic overtime battle, and had their bye coming off that exhilarating win.
While the Seahawks spent their open date, the Eagles were getting beat at home by the New England Patriots. The home loss, coupled with the Dallas Cowboys win over the Lions in Detroit, dropped Philadelphia out of a first place tie and a game behind the NFC East leading Cowboys.
The Seahawks rode a three game winning streak into their break, which had the crescendo with the win over San Francisco. One of the more difficult tasks is to win on both sides of a bye week. The Seahawks not only won, they did it in dramatic fashion against a previously undefeated 49ers team.
On the other side of that victory for the Seahawks is a motivation hole that Seattle doesn’t appear capable of overcoming. Their 8-2 record is a step ahead of their actual talent, while the Eagles 5-5 mark is below what their talent would seem to dictate. This creates a mathematical edge for Philadelphia, more likely to pull to within two games than fall behind by four.
The Eagles faced a stiff challenge last week in their 17-10 loss to New England. But that defeat feeds a more focused and determined Eagles group, while the Seahawks three games winning streak and a week off do not spell well for the possibility of an inspired performance.
The Seahawks may have served their backers well the first ten weeks of the season, while it is more likely the Eagles will be the more consistent money winner down the season’s stretch.
Qoxhi Picks: Philadelphia Eagles (-1) over Seattle Seahawks
