The Washington Redskins have only one win this season, a one point victory over the then winless Miami Dolphins. Today, they are favored on the point spread in a home meeting against the New York Jets.
The Jets have two solid efforts to point at in anticipating them picking up their third win of the season at the expense of the home standing Redskins. First, a home win over the Dallas Cowboys, and second, a victory last Sunday against their New York rivals, the Giants. The Jets were underdogs last week at home against the Giants, and after that win opened as a 1½ point underdog for today’s game at FedExField.
The point spread has risen to where the Redskins have been favored by 2½ points, while wagering on this game is coming in from the public heavy on the Jets side. If the public is betting on the Jets, why are the Jets getting more points than they started with on the spread?
Smart money is not always right, but smart money combined with the books trying to lure more public bets to the underdog with an expanding spread, is a pretty solid indicator of a huge advantage with the favorite in Washington today.
The best way to earn profits in the point spread market is to take cues from the people who best know the product. They employ a vast network of resources to cover every aspect of all NFL games, and their findings can be measured by the spread they put on games.
With a healthy respect for the information they are able to gather through their network of resources I notice the smart guys and books are on the same side in the Redskins matchup with the Jets today.
I suggest we join them.
