The National Football League’s third Sunday of play will offer clear skies at most venues although Green Bay and Kansas City could have thunderstorms severe enough to cause delays. The Packers host the Denver Broncos while the Chiefs entertain the Baltimore Ravens.
The Broncos come up as one of our money rated plays today even after dropping their first two contests. While the Packers were beating a pair of division rivals, the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, the Broncos lost on the road to the Oakland Raiders and last week in their home opener against the Chicago Bears.
The Broncos are operating under the always challenging situation of having a first-year head coach with a quarterback new to the team. Joe Flacco, who led the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl win to conclude the 2012 season, joined John Elway’s team this year to end the quarterback drought in the Mile High City.
Since Peyton Manning retired after winning the Super Bowl to complete the 2015 season, the Broncos have rifled through quarterbacks while still searching for a worthy replacement. Flacco has not been sharp in either of his starts for the Broncos, looking bad in Oakland during a loss to the Raiders, and inadequate at home during last week’s setback to the Chicago Bears.
But, here we get a good spot for him to benefit from a highly motivated Broncos squad up against a Packers team off back-to-back division wins with highly anticipated contests against the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys to follow.
The Broncos getting the Packers in a sandwich spot is not the only one of that variety out their today. The Dallas Cowboys opened their season with wins over NFC East Division rivals the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins. Next week, the Cowboys meet the Saints in New Orleans and host the Green Bay Packers the following Sunday.
With all that complete and coming up for Dallas, how the heck do they focus on the Miami Dolphins today? It is a horrible spot for the Cowboys to lay 22 points, but then again, the Dolphins are a horrible team.
Six teams will start new quarterbacks this week, two by choice and four due to injury. The New York Giants are perhaps ending the run of Eli Manning, which includes a pair of Super Bowl wins, for the talents of top draft choice Daniel Jones. The Dolphins have also decided to switch quarterbacks, giving Josh Rosen his first chance to start for his new team. Rosen was a first round draft choice of the Arizona Cardinals two years ago.
The four squads that lost their quarterbacks to injury last week are the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers. With history as our guide, we can expect those four teams to have a spike in their play this week.
As for the public, their three favorite plays today are the Los Angeles Rams (-3) over the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers (-6½) over the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Seattle Seahawks (-5½) over the New Orleans Saints.
The Qoxhi game day selections are now posted on this site, and if a Bullet Plays develops in the final hour leading up to the first kickoff, that game will be added to the playlist at 9:45 a.m. Pacific Time.
